James Madison’s Montpelier Trails

Grounds, Tours & Trails Open Saturdays and Sundays 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM. Starting March 10th Open Thursdays-Mondays, 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM.

Montpelier’s eight-plus miles of walking trails meander through pastures, meadows and forests, including the Old-Growth Landmark Forest.

Mine Run Battlefield Trail

The wooded, 1.5 mile Mine Run Battlefield interpretive trail, marked with historical wayside tablets, is located across Highway 611 from the Zoar Baptist Church about 2 miles north of Locust Grove, Virginia. Perserved by American Battlefield Trust​.

Throttle Therapy Lake Anna

Throttle Therapy Lake Anna is an active 93 acre farm located in the heart of Virginia and only minutes from beautiful Lake Anna. Wilderness Battlefield Trails

This National Park Service trail is centered at the Wilderness Battlefield and offers two miles of American history. Interpretive signs, maps and photos along the trail are easy to follow and supplement the information provided at the exhibit shelter.

Wilderness Crossing Trail

The grounds at Ellwood are open Sunrise to Sunset every day of the year.

A 1.4 mile trail stretching from Ellwood Manor to the Wilderness Tavern site, the trail blends local scenery with history. The grounds at Ellwood are open Sunrise to Sunset every day of the year. Visitors may visit the grounds, even when the house is closed. Park at the Ellwood Manor gate on Route 20.
