SUMMARY:Book Signing with Roger Courtenay In partnership with Spelled ink Bookstore
DESCRIPTION:Meet Roger Courtenay\, the author of Coming in to View. This book signing is free to attend and open to the public. Coming in to View: Explorations of Radical Shifts in Beauty Outdoors Nature\, and the world around us\, is changing\, evolving\, rapidly\, fluidly. Metamorphosing in front of our eyes with climate\, political\, social\, economic and environmental upheaval. Our personal appreciation of landscapes encompasses all those places we may have touched\, visited\, or seen. Inevitably\, a radical shift in our notions of beauty in the outdoors is underway across all types\, from inner city to wilderness. Landscapes confront and influence our physiological\, psychological\, and aesthetic relationship with the natural world. We question what we see. How does the ambiguity of the present and future view relate to past appreciation? What does the future hold for our love of the outdoors? Environmental\, artistic\, design and planning realities are already conditioning responses across the planet’s amazing landscapes. This book’s narrative arc of 17 separate essays travels through landscapes from the National Mall in Washington DC to the remote highlands of Mongolia. Uncovering the strains and indications of change in what we now experience outdoors\, anywhere\, everywhere\, whether familiar or unfamiliar\, these essays seek to open our eyes to new prospects of landscape appreciation.

SUMMARY:Ceramics Date Night with Phillip Strauss
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a date night you’ll actually remember? Spend an evening getting your hands dirty and discovering the magic of the potter’s wheel. Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary\, planning a first date\, catching up with friends\, or simply trying something new\, Ceramic Date Night offers a creative experience that’s equal parts fun\, relaxing\, and surprisingly addictive. Your evening begins with a tour of our ceramics studio and gallery\, followed by a demonstration from one of The Art Center’s talented Resident Artists. Then it’s your turn. With plenty of guidance and encouragement\, you’ll sit down at the wheel and create your own pottery from clay. Most participants spend about 90 minutes on the wheel and create two to three pieces during their first session. No experience is necessary—just a willingness to try something new and have fun. Once your pieces are complete\, you’ll choose from more than 60 beautiful glazes to give your work its final color and character. Our staff will then fire and finish your pottery\, and 4-6 weeks later\, you’ll return to pick up your handmade creations—lasting reminders of a memorable evening. \nWho Is It For? Despite the name\, Ceramic Date Night isn’t just for couples. Bring a spouse\, partner\, friend\, parent\, sibling\, coworker\, or come on your own. The real goal is to spend a few hours making something with your hands\, sharing some laughs\, and discovering a creative side you may not have known you had.
