The first Salubria Open House is Saturday, April 30th! They have 4 tour times limited to 15 people per hour. They have two additional open houses coming up in May and June. Germanna Trades Weekend
Come out and join us for this unique event! We are hosting our 2nd annual Trades Weekend at the Ft Germanna Visitors Center the weekend of August 20 and 21 from 10 am - 4 pm. Live demonstrations include surveying, blacksmithing, eel pot making, hewing and timber frame construction, clay bread oven, and more. Historic Germanna Archaeology Open House
Historic Germanna will host a public access day on Saturday, August 12, 2023 between 10:00am and 3:00pm of its unique archaeological dig sites in Orange County, Virginia. The site encompasses the ruins of the "Enchanted Castle" - home of Virginia’s Colonial-era Governor, Alexander Spotswood - as well as the potential sites of the 1714 Fort Germanna that was constructed by the first German immigrants to The New World and the original Spotsylvania Court House. When soldiers used Germanna Ford in the Civil War, they were traversing a centuries-old crossing of the Rapidan River. Indigenous tribes, English and German colonists, the Marquis de Lafayette, and Civil War armies were all shaped by this location, but also influenced this environment in ways we can still observe today.
