Spring Has Sprung in Orange County, Virginia!

It’s that time of year.  The daffodils are blooming, the farms are bustling again with new life, the sun is shining, and outdoor patios are filling up in restaurants and café’s all-over Central Virginia.  It is officially Spring!   Whether you need a Spring Break itinerary for the whole family or a quick, weekend jaunt to soak up some rays, there are lots of options to get outside and enjoy the scenery in Orange County, Virginia.

Consider grabbing a friend for a round of golf – Orange County courses will not disappoint!  Meadows Farm is an affordable course filled with rolling hills and picturesque countryside on the site of a former, pure-bred cattle farm.  Or Somerset Farms Golf Club has history and mountain vistas on its antebellum course on the property of an 1834 Manor Estate.  There are also public tee-times available at the private, 18-hole course at Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove.  If your group is not quite ready for the PGA, Orange County Parks and Recreation operates a FREE, family-friendly Disc Golf Course at the Thomas E. Lee Industrial Park.  Just print out your score card before you leave your room and join in the fun!

If the winter blues have you craving a bit more adventure consider horseback riding with Trail Rides at Oakland Heights Farm or go for the million dollar view on a Top of the Morning Tandem Dive at Skydive Orange.  Orange County is known for its beautiful countryside, recreational opportunities and scenic hikes.  A visit to the Germanna Foundation in Eastern Orange County allows visitors the chance to hike the 170 acre Siegen Forest or even launch kayaks and canoes from a public access point along the Rapidan River.

Looking for an activity for a multi-generational vacation?  Strawberry picking is a Springtime staple in Central Virginia.  It’s perfect for a girl-friend get-a-way, a family day-trip, or even a first date!  Join the folks at Liberty Mills Farm for berry picking (depending on the weather and the crop) sometime in late April and/or May.  Then mark your calendars for their Strawberry Festival held annually on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend – this year it’s May 22nd from 9:30am-3:00pm.  The festival will feature vendors, a Berry Best Dressed Baby Contest and samples of everything from strawberry salsa to strawberry ice cream.
