Celebrate Constitution Day the Whole Month of September at James Madison Montpelier!

On September 17, 1787 delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia ratified the United States Constitution.  Communities around the country have celebrated and remembered this special day in a variety of ways until it was officially declared a Federal Holiday in 2004.  As the home of President James Madison, Father of the Constitution, Montpelier has a long history of hosting special programs and events to commemorate Constitution Day.  In 2022, Montpelier’s Constitution Day celebrations will last for the entire month of September and include virtual and in-person opportunities.  Visit Orange County, Virginia to learn more about the Founding Father who created the US Constitution and inspired a nation!

James Madison’s Montpelier will be holding several events throughout the month of September to highlight the US Constitution, Madison’s life, and the enslaved community who lived and worked at Montpelier. Explore the origins of the Constitution and the legacy it leaves today with one of their professional interpreters on special tours such as the Constitution Tour, the Bill of Rights Tour, and the Enslaved Community Tour.  Visitors are also invited to participate in educational panels and a Libation Ceremony at the Enslaved Cemetery.

Months in the making, this extensive celebration will include nationally recognized guest speakers, a visit from Mr. Madison himself, as well as a full day of activities on Constitution Day – Saturday, September 17th.
